The Task
Vonk asked how we as a Rotterdam region can contribute to achieving one or more Sustainable Development Goals in the Rotterdam region. My focus was on SDG 16: peace, justice and strong public services.
Motivation & Goal

My research showed me that men in Rotterdam know little about street harassment, while women suffer from it a lot. This inspired me to create a domino effect where men can positively influence each other by leading through example. My goal was to develop a concept that makes women feel protected and makes men aware, ultimately reduces street harassment, creating a safe environment through collaboration.
After reviewing the survey results and speaking with respondents, I was able to create a user persona for the target audience.
Co-Creating

In my efforts to effectively tackle the problem of street harassment in Rotterdam, I have worked intensively with both male and female respondents. The challenge started with determining the right approach and establishing an appropriate starting point. Through testing and co-creation with my respondents, solutions emerged that I might not have otherwise thought of.
The subject is sensitive and the problem complex. I was aware that I couldn't solve it on my own, and my respondents didn't have all the answers either. The risk of getting stuck was therefore high. I was able to overcome this by continually setting clear and realistic goals. Despite these challenges, I still wanted to make a positive contribution, because I believe that even small changes can make a big difference.
I conducted numerous creative sessions with the target audience. On the left, you can see a mind map about the look and feel of the app. On the right, you can see a custom-made template using the Flower method (divergent thinking) and the Dartboard method (convergent thinking) to generate ideas for the app.
iMunity is a safe space in the form of an app where men (and women) can learn more about street harassment, making street harassment a topic for discussion, allowing them be able to recognize and prevent this.
There are some important features, for example: sharing your live location. This function has been added because the target group (young adults and adult men in Rotterdam) considers it important that the women in their lives are safe. This is the feature that would make most men download this app.
Once on the app, you can report street harassment, participate in various forums, read true stories and contact professionals.
